Default Sportsman 335 shifting issues

To make a long story short, my buddy got his 2000 sportsman 335 stuck in a creek. REAL stuck, I had to use my 4x4 truck and a few tries to get it out. As Polaris's go they don't want to shift with the drive train under stress. We couldn't get it into reverse so it was pulled out backwards in low range. After we let the cvt drain and checked everything over he drove it around a little. It did fine in low, and will go to neutral but not high or reverse. We proceeded to change the trans oil (it had minimal water intrusion) this had little to no effect. We also disconnected the push rod from the shifter box and tried to manually get it into high or reverse to no avail. Any help or information on what to look at would be greatly appreciated!

Not good on gear shafts, shift forks, engagement gears and dogs when pulled like this. If you can't get it to snap into neutral with vice grips by rocking the atv back and forth, then you may have to split the gear case to find the problem. Even something as simple as a jumped circlip on any gear can cause shifting problems.Dirt Cheap Yamaha, Polaris, Suzuki & Kawasaki OEM Parts & Accessories – Cycle Parts Warehouse
