About 3/8 to 1/2" slack center of the chain between the sprockets. After about 97-98 models all Polaris chain driven models have concentric drive meaning the drive sprocket is inline with the swing arm, compression of the rear end has less effect on chain tension than previous models and chains can be run at a tighter setting.
