98 Trail Boss 250 throttle issue?
Hey guys, I just picked up a '98 Trail Boss 250 today. I am brand new to the atv world & have a couple questions. The quad will run fine in the yard, but I tried to take it down the street & at full throttle for about 1/8 mile it acted like it was bogging down, until eventually dying. Would that be caused by a dirty carberateur? The vehicle has apparently been sitting for some time now, and I have never messed with anything 2 stroke. What are some things I should be checking just overall to see if the vehicle is even in good working condition? I know some obvious things from my motorcycle experience, like chain, sprockets, etc... Any help or comments would be appreciated greatly. Thanks!

Fresh gas,new plug, clean air filter? All these can affect the running along with a trashed up dirty carb.First thing that I would check on a 2 stroke is compression to see where you stand on the top end. Must have at least 120 psi for it even run good. If it at least has that, the problem may be stopped up carb jets or sticking needle and seat problems. Here's a couple videos on this style carb.
