Default Stock Polaris front shock question

Do the stock polaris front shocks rebound on their own? say for the sportsmans around year 1996-04.
meaning, if the shock is removed from the machine and then compressed, should it return to extended length own its own.
I've never had a new shocks, since most of the machines I have are old. and when I've pulled them during my builds, the old shocks never rebound on their own.
I just got a set of broncos for my 02-700 and they rebound. I was going to take the old shocks and put those on my 96-500 to replace a leaky shock.
But the old ones do not rebound.
so are those dead or do they just dampen and not really have a rebound.

thanks

ok, thanks.
guess thats why the machines are very bouncy up front.
adding those broncos with the HD springs was a big difference.

I'm 260lbs and stepping on the machine footwells with the old shocks, the front would dive. With the new broncos.. I can stand on the front rack and it doesn't move much..

guess I"ll invest in broncos for the 96 as well.

thanks

since I've been riding on dead shocks.
Do you think I would be ok just getting stock replacements or would the Broncos w/springs be the best way to go.
this is just for trail riding, no plans for adding attachments.
But I do like to have fun, so I do ride aggressive and don't mind leaving the ground from time to time. nothing like a sport quad. but our trails around here do have added humps in them to help with erosion. so going fast and then hitting the brakes every 50yrds sucks, so I usually jump them most of the time.
and I do weigh 260lbs.

without springs would save about $120.
just wasn't sure if the new shocks with standard springs be good or not.

In your case good shocks and some heavier springs might be in order if you plan on keeping this machine. If you plan on getting rid of it in the near future, then go with cheaper shocks and keep the std springs.
