Default Brake flush.

Getting a list together of my needs for spring maintenance.

Want to flush the brake fluid, I hear the name mityvac used often.

Can I use them to suck fresh fluid through the system?

Best way to flush a brake system is to use a mityvac. Even quicker if you use shop towels, rags to soak up fluid in the master cylinder first, fill it with fresh dot 4 and start bleeding at the rear caliper first until fluid is clear then move to the front right.

Ditto on OPT's thread. I bought one of those manual (pump) 8 qt suck-o-matics from Northern and love it. On brakes, I suck all the fluid out of the master and top off. Then use my power bleeder on all the lines until I get fresh fluid through them. Also works great on all other fluids. Plenty of hose to get down any dipstick/fill tube to suck the old stuff out.

I have the mity-vac and it works...however, the best way to bleed is up as that is the way air wants to go anyway...drain old fluid out, find clear hose that fits very snug on caliper bleeder, attach other side to syringe that holds ample fluid and squeeze...when master is 1/2 full close bleeder and test for pressure...a different path if you don't want to spend the $40-50 on the pump...
