Default 2006 Sportsman - Stock Tire Replacements

Hi,

I was out on my first ride this weekend and though it was a great time, I came home with a flat. Though the stock tires still have some tread, they look in rough shape with some gashes and cuts.

The flat I have is about a 2 inch slash. I was considering repairing with an inner tube (at a local shop) temporarily. I happened to find two Kenda Bearclaw tires (not the HTR)the right size 26x11R12 for sale used. They have never been on a rim - Of course I need to go look at them to verify the condition. The price is certainly right!

Will these be a good stock replacement? Although the reviews I read are mostly decent, some say the tires "run small". Since I have the same size as my stockers, these should work, correct? Any experience with them??

ya the stock tires are only like 3 ply and can easily be cut as you found out. if the price is right then you cant go wrong on the claws as i have seen a few people use them and liked them.

Thanks for the info. I'm going to go pick them up. Can I expect similar traction/performance to the stocks? Will I notice any power loss as they are heavier?

My stock tires aren't 3-ply, they're 3-star which is supposed to be equal to 6-ply. None of my friends' non-Polaris quads had stock tires as good as Polaris. I've never had Bearclaws but hear they're a decent tire.

Interesting. I checked and mine are also 3 star. The tires say "Polaris:by Carlisle:.

Also, in doing research, they say 26x11R12 - From what I read, the "R" indicates a radial tire? Is that correct?

Yes. R is radial.

Hmmm, so the bear claws are also 26x11R12 --- So they are radial as well?

You can't go wrong with Bear Claws, lots of us here are impressed with them. One guy here recently got Motoclaw from EFX ATV Tires, looks great and felt good difference. 6-ply and we'll see if it will last long.

The Motoclaw is a non-directional tread pattern which would come in handy for some of the riding I do on the shoulder of the road. One side is in the dirt or grass and the other side is on pavement and gets more wear. It would be easy to switch them out side to side.
