Default Trail Blazer Tranny Problem

I just bought a used 2000 trail blazer 250. Bur now the tranny is stuck in reverse. What's my next step? I'm thinking I should start with adjusting the shift linkage but does anybody have any ideas or had a similar problem? If I do adjust are there any guidlines on how to do that?

Had a similar prob w/ my sportsman.. (and with an old hurst shifter in a 72 chevy).. Take the side plastic off, I'd bet it stuck into 2 gears, not allowing disengage from reverse. Try wiggling the lever where it enters the "shifter bowl" (soory, dunno the tecnical term)... happened alot on my last sportsman, just dis-engage the sticking lever and re-adjust till it wont lock into 2 gears. (hence stuck in 1 gear)

Here is what I just found. Need some help here. Where the rod enters the ball joint (on the tranny end) it is attached to a ratchet that connects onto a gear on top of the tranny. OK both the ratchet and gear are stripped! Ratchet I wouldn't think is a problem but how the heck do I get the gear off of the screw that goes into the tranny? Is it easy or is it a trip to the shop time?

The shift shafts come off with the case, but I would recommend getting a shop manual before just tearing into the tranny. You will get tons of use of it and can refer to it at any time. It pays for itself threefold, I promise.
