Default 500 scrambler / 700 KFX trail question

Just yesterday I got my big bear stuck twice going up a hill with loose sand and dirt. Granted my kid was on back and we were going real slow to keep from throwing him off. Reverse works great in that situation.
I have heard that the Scrambler will go through anything, and is a nice machine for people who ride where there is mud and deep loose sand. I hear that the 700 doesn't need 4X4 because of great tires and suspension. Can you go just about anywhere in light mud and dirt with a 700 as you can with a scrambler?
I have issues with the power of the Scrambler. I want to be able to smoke my friends on Grizzlys. I am tired of having to breath their dust all the time. You have to keep visine in your pack.
I also hear that the Polaris is not as reliable as other quads out there. What about the 500 scrambler. The Yamaha guys I ride with hate Polaris. The 4X4 on one of them doesn't seem to work well at all.
Please let me know your experience. Not what a magazine says.
Thanks,
Shawn

well u got 2 options if u watn to smoke the grizzley. u can 1 get the kfx and have 2wd. or u can get a scrammy 400 4x4(a used one they dont make them anymore cuz theyre 2 strokes) and mod it a lil wit pipe, filter, reeds, and remove some weight and smoke alot of stuff and have a very powerfull 4x4. we have a 99 400 4x4 and it is a beast wen u get stuck u flick it in 4x4 and rip right out of wat ur stuck in

I would say that the 500 scrambler will take a Grizz. Not "smoke it", but it shoudl be able to beat it. You would also be able to out handle one in the twistys. I am sure that the V can go pretty good through some light mud and what not, but can not follow a scrambler through the nasty stuff. Just wont happen. You shoudlnt listen to the people that say "Polaris sucks, they always break down". They are usually the ones that either had an old one and NEVER maintained it, or are just regurgitating what they have heard others say. The fact is, Polaris is just as reliable as any other manufacture these days. The key is proper maintence. If you take care of it, it will take care of you. You may have your share of problems, but what ATV doesnt. It happens!. IMHO, the scrambler is the ultimate mix of sport and utility.
