if you have the cap off the end of the bars we take a air hose and stick it under the grip
to loosen it. twist it off while applying air to it. once removed dry everything and use grip glue to hold it in place

most bike shops have glue for grips. renthal makes it
I had a cap that wouldnt come off so I used vise grips on it and twisted it off
didnt care if I broke it
I took them off and left them off. I put new grips on at the time

I learned a cool trick years ago that has been working real well. After taking your old grip off (you might need to cut it off) I clean the bar real good with brake cleaner. After it is perfectly clean I wet the new grip and the bar with brake cleaner and quickly shove the new grip into place. Brake cleaner evaporates real fast so you've got to be quick. My grips have never loosed or twisted on me using this method. Don't use too much brake cleaner on the grip because the rubber will be dissolved partially by the brake cleaner.

I'd just suggest breaking the caps off, buying new grips, then putting them on with those caps.

I don't use glue, I use wire to hold my grips on, that way when they wear out, they're easy to take off.
