Default What quad?

Hey my friend is looking into getting a quad...this will be his first sport quad and he will be riding mostly in fields, trails, and maybe going to the dunes every once and awhile with me but mostly it would be trails and fields....i was thinking z400 and its clones? What do you guys think would be good for him he is about 6 feet.

Hey DuneRider650, i think that is a good choice i would either go with the z400, KFX400 or the 400ex i don't really have to much experience with the DVX400 but i love the new look of the 400ex they have the plastics of a 450R and there are one of the best quads for trails, and now that they have reverse they are even better. It's a honda so you know it will last and i think that it is well worth the money. The z400 and KFX400 are sweet quad as well they are one of the most popular quads in cross country which is trails and fields like what you and your friend will be riding. At the dunes all three of these quads are popular so would i say out of the z400 KFZ400 and 400ex which ever one you get cheaper that's the one i would get. They all are kick a$$ quads and your friend will be happy with any of them. Also there is a ton of hop-ups for a three quads.

yes the DVX, KFX and the Z400 are the same
just different plastics and colors and as vunit said I would
go for the Z400 or the 400ex both great for trails

Well, considering I own a Raptor, I better back it up, honestly it fits me great, though I am 6'3", the Z400/400ex feel real small when I ride them. As for trail riding, I can usually easily excel past my friends on my Raptor. Tippy? It just needs different body language, and Ive never tipped it over even on highspeed hard turns.

Get him to goto a dealer and sit on the machines, see which one he has a feel for.

well he doesnt like raptors and even tho they are a good trail quad i still see transmissions go in 02 models and up and axels bending etc. I was thinking it would be good but something like a z400 would be a good quad to start with and i have not heard of any problems with them.

z400 has a terrible chain adjustment, and they are full of breaks, cracks, and snaps, especially the 03 models. A lot of it was fixed for 04, but not all.

Raptor has no trans problems from 02 on. Axles are just as strong as any other 450 pound sport bike, and the only recurring problem is the one way that was supposedly fixed for 04.

It's no big deal if your buddy doesnt like raptors, I could care less. I just dont want more kids speading false information about how great one quad is and how bad another is.
