I am about to get a new Eiger and would like any advice on the types of oils everyone is using.

Welcome to the forum! I use Zuki oil since I figure they know more bout it than I do. I only change it a couple times a year and the extra cost aint really that much. That $15 filter tho could be cheaper.

 

Heres a bunch of alternate filters you can use, they fit the Arctic Cat 400 and 500's so the should work for the eiger and vinsons

I think its also the same one zuki uses on the sv1000, gsxr1000,sv650, and vinson.

I use Amsoil Synthetic High Performance Motorcycle Engine Oil, 10w40 in the winter and 20w50 in the summer, with a Napa 1359 filter. I have also used Mobile 1 and castrol with great results. I went with synthetic because the eiger has an air/oil cooled engine, which I subject it to alot of abuse. Some people have had problems with synthetic oil in their semi automatic quads, I have never had any problems with the clutch slipping ect.. If you do not want to run synthetic I would recomend a heavy duty engine oil like Delo 400 or Delvac 1300, they can be purchased for $6 a gallon and wal-mart.

Og just had a grizz that had a bad carb on it and it was getting gas in the oil the last 2YEARS. The guy didnt notice until his seals started leaking. When the oil was drained it had almost 2 gallons in it! thats like a 1:4 ratio, and the thing ran okay but the belt started slipping. ( thats why the guy wanteds it fixed).

The oil today is so advanced that I think the most important thing is to change it. If your doing extreme things then you need extreme oil. If the price is in yer range then get the good stuff.

I spend extra dollars for everything on any of my machines and the oil is no different.

GET THE BEST YOU CAN AFFORD, YOU WONT REGRET IT!!

 

You never go wrong with the brand that is recommended for the machine by the builder.

Valvoline makes ATV Engine Oil . Specifically designed for cooling and the abuse quads take.

 

The manufacturers are trying to design engines that run at peak performance but they are afraid that if an engine requires synth it will scare people off. So they design with regular oil in mind.
