Wouldn't valve work be a good idea though? I ask only cause I am not a gearhead either. More cc's would need more fuel and make more exaust??
You are right about price though.. I paid 160 for sleeve, piston kit and gasket set. Springs and valves came with cam, $250 I think. Machinist cahrged me 275 to do both, which was probably a smokin deal! He was wondering why I was doing this to a "chick bike"???? But I guess when you build 1300cc turbo charged, nitrous hyabussa powered engines for drag quads, 265 seams like a lawnmower engine............

LOL, yeah, I have been used to porting out a steel head 460 ford that has a 509 kit in it. Lawnmower is a good analogy, lol. A 2-liter bottle will fit into the 509 bores and has plenty of wiggle room.
Anyway, I think all they do to the valves is order new ones and "maybe" grind them to match. The last 2 jobs I've had done they didn't even do that much. I had to lap the valves until they fit in the seat good. They usually put the seals on too, lol,,,, just something else for me to take off so I can inspect their work. I'm not a big fan of 3 angle valve jobs, but you can spend the extra money for braggin rights if you want. There may be a slight increase in flow, but a slight increase on such a small engine is basically negligible.
Now, if you can find oversized valves and have the seats ground to match, then you'd get more air in the engine. I don't know if they exist. The most important thing with valve work is the guides. You want good guides to make sure the valve stays straight. The last 2 jobs I didn't get new guides. I guess I didn't need them, lol. Other than that, getting more air in is a matter of porting n polishing. Usually I dig at the exhaust port. The exhaust valve is almost always the smallest on all engines. I hardly touch the intake side of anything.
For someone that is not a gearhead,,, appeal to your machinist to please lap the valves and make sure the guides are in good shape or else just replace them. They will probably charge a pretty penny for port work since it is so time consuming. A dremel from sears probably costs $50 and there are porting guides all over the net. Sometimes I use a water hose to be able to see the flow and see where I need to take more metal off.

What kind and where did you order from??
I can't count the number of times I have stared at tensioners, wondering if I could make it work.. I don't have the killer welding skills you have. Sick a arms by the way!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 47in!!! 08 450R is 49in!! 50in max for racing!! You are the man!
I won't lose touch with my machinist, though I am certain he would be happy to lose me! I am a pain in his azz I am sure.

I won't be doing much welding with this unit, its aluminum. Only the gods can weld aluminum, lol. I have no idea how I will mount it since I don't have nerf bars, but I will find a way.
I looked at all the new sport 450 quads made today and suzuki is the widest at 49 inches and has a pretty low seat height too. That's why I decided to go with 47. (That and I had a bunch of wrist pins from my 460 that were 3.25 inches, so I didn't have to cut any tube.)

ok, if anyone is interested, I have the gear ratios. I had to look at the fiche and do some math, but here they are. 3.08, 2.14, 1.6, 1.23, 1
I can't figure out reverse, but who cares. I also can't figure out the primary drive ratio because the fiche is scewed up. I think its something like 21/69, but until someone pulls the clutch out and counts the teeth, we will never know.
Just as a note, the 250 has the same gears except for 4th. 4th is 1.26 instead of 1.23. Hmmm... I thought 4th was a little tall.
Anyone know the max rpm??? I'm going to get about computing the max speed in each gear.
