2005 Suzuki Eiger cooling fan problem. Direct wired fan to the battery and it works so where do I go from here could it be a relay or temp sensor? How would you test a relay or temp sensor. Or is it someting else. Thanks Rick

 

Are you sure your sensor is bad? The fans rarely kick on. Oddly enough, mine normally only comes on when I've been plowings snow for awhile, usually at low speeds, alot of backing up, etc. There may not be anything wrong. I think the Eigers run kind of cool. Otherwise, there is a fuse for the fan. Check that.

 

Agreed. I got worried about mine years ago since I never heard the fan come on. Finally let it run at high idle with restricted airflow just to see if the fan came on. Had a external temp gauge to keep tabs on it - thing cut-in temperature was 246 degrees, but not 100% sure.

Short story is that the fan eventually came on. I've noticed it a few times since - almost always when running slow under load. The Eiger just manages to keep itself cool and rarely needs the fan.

 

the exhaust pipe turns orange and one time when it turned orange, the fan kicked in and the pipe went back to normal. The fan fuse is ok and checked the fan to see if it worked by wiring to battery and it worked. Not sure what else to check. It is starting to get so hot, that it is starting to run poorly and die. Thinking the relay or the temp sensor, but not sure how to check them.

 

not sure if sensors is bad, dont know how to check it but something is wrong. It is starting to run poorly when it gets hot.

 

The cheap fix would be to wire in a switch. I know of many people that have done that instead of paying the outrageous dealer prices to fix something.

 

I'm having a similar problem with running poorly. Mine is running lean and the fan kicks on and it starts running rough. Not sure why your fan is not kicking on, but if the wiring all looks good, the fuse is good, and you know the fan works, I would think it's in the sensor.
