Question Need some help with a cam chain tensioner

Finally got my Suzuki LT250ef running but shifted gears in a low rpm and the cam chain seems to have jumped timing. Luckily it was while the valves were seated and the piston did not reach the valves. I am putting everything back together and my cam chain is loose enough that with enough force could jump a notch on the sprocket. My manual that I have covers what seems to be a lt230 but all the components are the same but with minor differences like the cam chain tensioner. the maual says to tweak the adjustment bolt on the tensioner but mine does not have one. Inside of the carrier of my tensioner seems to be a type of recoil hooked up to a screw. The way it sits now hardly puts any pressure on the chain slide. I need it to reach out about a quarter of an inch or so to put the right pressure on the chain. Any ideas on how to adjust this recoil type chain tensioner?
