Default Eiger 400 carb isssue

I have a 04 Eiger 400 that will start as long as I restrict the airflow. Once the airflow is no longer restricted it will no longer run. Any suggestions?

Jim:

Sounds to me like the fuel mixture is too lean. When air flow is restricted, the ratio of fuel to air is higher, giving you more of a "correct" mix in order to run.

Thinking out loud, you probably have a clogged jet in the carb. Probably worth the time to pull the carb, clean it with a good carb cleaner (I use Super Tech from Wal-Mart---cheap and very effective) and blow dry all ports, passages, and jets with compressed air. Don't use wire or drill bits to clean the passages--it can cause damage and a new carb is about $400.

May want to spring for a rebuild kit--about $35, can get on EvilBay somewhat cheaper.

My suggestions--I'm sure some other guys will chime in as well.

Good luck--keep us posted on progress.

sounds like it is time to pull the carb and clean the jets, ports, and passageways. Remove the idle mixture screw cover at the bottom of the carb, carefully turn the screw clockwise until it bottoms out, the back the screw out 2 1/2 turns--you'll slightly lose fuel economy, but gain much better throttle response and quicker warm-ups.

Another suggestion. Check the fuel petcock and the vaccum line that runs from it to the carb. These Suzukis are notorious for gummed up diaphrams that causes fuel supply issues for the carb.

Just a thought, let us know.
