fuel consumption
i just recently bought a 2009 suzuki LTA 400. it was brand new with only 2.3 miles. i have looked but haven't found any information about what kind of fuel mileage i can expect. haven't ran a tank of gas through it yet so haven't got any idea. would like to know before i take it on a long ride.

I am guessing you mean a ltz 400. I will do 30 to40 miles on mine and not even worry about fuel. the fuel light on mine comes on at about 55 miles and you still should have about half a gallon left. 40 to 50 miles of trail riding will wear you out. most guys I ride with they run out of steam before they run out of gas. hope that helps. Three observations
1. my fuel gage is off
2. my true range was between 65-70 miles per tank.
3. MPG around 14?? I thought it was much more.
We run around 35-40 miles per ride and my odometer is always +3-5 miles when compared to what the GPS tells us.
I put around 11 dollars in the tank (3.69 per gallon figured 40 miles of total travel on average) to fill it up this is around 2.9 gallons and my fuel gage is always above 1/2 a tank when we are done riding for the day.
The MFG says I have a 4.6 gallon tank.
********
I just put a clutch kit on the bike and it runs at a higher rpm. I did around 40 miles 2 weeks ago and I was just under 1/2 tank when I was done so I now have no idea but I am going to keep a log. (this was my 1st full ride)
********
I would bet if you could get 20 mpg no problem.
best way to tell is fill it all the way up.
keep a ride log with your miles traveled and note the amount of fuel it takes to fill up the tank when you are done.
*
Amount of fuel added to make a full tank = consumption.
consumption divided by distance traveled = mpg
*
Do this for 5 rides and you should have a ***** on idea of what to expect.
Hope this helps.

Ok it has been a rough month and I only got out once since my last post.
My last trip out I went 44 miles.
I filled my tank yesterday (heading out for a long weekend ) and it took 2.46 gallons to fill er up.
So it seems like my guess/memory/numbers were way off.
MPG - 17.88* -- not bad
Current estimated range is 82.248 miles.
*the conditions were some snow and lots of mud so the tires were spinning and I was hard on the throttle that day.
I will continue to post as I ride to see if I can get an accurate read on max range. (a very good thing to know)
