Default help w/Lt80 starting isuess

So heres the deal...I got this quad from a guy for nothing....says his daughter outgrew it....been parked in the shed for a couple of years. I figure...cool...free...a battery...clean the carb...no prob. Well, for starters,he lost the ignition key. So I figure its a simple on/off switch. I think thats where i made my first mistake....nothing is ever simple. I get a brand new battery and a toggle switch. Got a wiring diagram free online. this is where I think I made my second mistake.red wire is the power from the battery...orange goes to the starter...the last 2 black with white and yellow stripe respectively...i figured were both grounds so i put em together. I have power to the starter, but no spark. I have power from the stator to the front of the quad. inside the rubber cup where all the wires go is a connection point. Male to female. Thats where i lose power. from there it goes to the coil. if I disconnect at that point, i have power from the stator to that point. If I reconnect, I have power only at the stator. I noticed on my nifty wiring diagram that the black wire with the yellow stripe may not be a ground after all. It appears to go and connect with the black w/red from the coil. I am guessing i wired this wrong or have the wrong kind of toggle switch. I have a simple on/off with three pole to connect too power/on/ground. so my question to anyone is....what the F am I doing wrong? or is something else wrong that I'm missing. thanks ahead of time fo rany help or sense you can talk to me

kinda sounds like you took a wire from the cdi that belongs to the ignition coil and grouped it with your ignition switch.

Maybe find where/what the black wires go to.
Ebay or a new switch can't be that much.

got the wires figured out....i have spark now...i decided to see if i could get it turn over..see if it wanted to catch. When I got this thing, the tank was bone dry,i havent put any fuel in it...figured there mightbe some still in the bowl. unfortunately the throtle was stuck open at the carb...someone had put the throttle body into the top of the carb incorrectly. so when it caught...it started running like a scalded dog!!! I had the brake set but it was starting to walk away from me!!! I finally was able to reach up and hit the kill switch. 2 things....first is it normal to have that much residual fuel inside the carb and or engine after 2 years of sitting? second it sprayed fuel out the exhaust all over my garage,me and my son. Is that normal? anybody with a logical answer...I'd love to hear it...strangest thing i've seen....where would all this fuel come from? could it have seeped down into the motor from sitting for 2 years? any answers would be appreciated

Yes, it seeped thru and filled the motor. A common fix is a on/off valve to stop this from happening again.
I'd be cleaning that carb.

whew, thats a relief...i assume the on/off valve would be located between the fuel tank petcock and the carb? seems odd that suzuki wouldnt have an off position on the fuel petcock that came w/the darn thing.....i already had planned on cleaning the carb...thanks for your help!

The stock petcock is off when in the run position. Problem is, fuel leaks by and it's common.
Yes, between the petcock and carb. I install a inline filter also.
