What up guys. Hope everyone is having a good day.
A little story, a short one, my father always wanted an LT250r. Managed to get one and its sitting in my driveway. The previous owner sounded like he was mechanically inclined and said it won't start as in it has been sitting for many months with gas in it. I kicked it over a few times and compression seemed pretty low. Lower than my kdx200, but I went ahead and bought it anyways because cosmeticaly it is in mint shape. He recently installed whole new clutch assembly and good tires.
It has a pro-design cool head. He has not the slightest clue as to what dome size. He runs cam2 octane in it, so correct me, but I figured it's a smaller size than oem because of the heat.
It has spark, and the plug is clean. I noticed when I tried to drain the gas from the petcock that it was dripping at best.
Under no circumstance do I call myself a guru at this, I'm all but new. So as a noob, the first thing I should do is take the carb off and go from there? Any tips or procedures will be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys, cheers.

If gas is only dripping out of the fuel valve, that is a problem. It should flow out. Flush the tank. If you can remove the petcock, it should have a fine mesh/screen around the fuel intake. This may be dirty. And yes, if it has been sitting for some time, order yourself a carb kit, take the carb apart and thoroughly clean it. If the jets are really clogged, they may need to be replaced. Most carb kits will include these. While you have the carb off, check your reeds as well. Good luck, and post how things are going.

I took the gas tank off, as well as the petcock. The petcock has 2 holes in it but no mesh screen. I cleaned the tank with gas. Took the carb off and for the life of me, I could not get the 4 bolts on the bowl. The previous owner stripped 2 of the 4. And I tried one and I was scared to strip it. Only thing I could think of is draining it and running carb/brakleen through it.
I put it all back on and kicked it over a few times. Seriously felt like I was kicking it without a spark plug in it. I asked a neighbor to pull me with my tractor. Took ~10 mins of tugging it. And all of a sudden a faint sound came. It ran rough but I adjusted the carb and now it's running like a champ. I turned it off and let it sit for over and hour and when I go to kick it, it has much more resistance than the previous time.
Takes like 5 kicks, I noticed I have to have the throttle 3/4 of the turn to get it to life.
I can see a new carb in the future, because if this one gums up I can't do anything about it haha.
