Default LT 160 Problem

Battery died over the winter so I heard online that you can jump it with a car battery. Just leave the vehicle off and jump it. As soon as I hooked it up it started to smoke near the battery/wire area. I charged the battery up and now the neutral light won't turn on, therefore it won't start. It will start when I jump the solenoid and when it starts the neutral light turns on as long as its running. Something must have fried? Any ideas? Thanks

Does your positive terminal on the battery have just the one big cable, or are there a smaller wire coming off of it too, for accessories?
If there is more than one wire coming off the battery, you may have put too much strain on a smaller gauge wire.

If not, check all your fuses, your circuit breaker (I don't think it's the circuit breaker since you can jump the solenoid and it will fire up) and look to see if you have any burned out fusible links.

Sounds like once you have it running, the charging system is back feeding power to your neutral light.

Take a multimeter and check continuity through all of your hot leads, particularly to the fuse box.
Check all your grounds too.
