New to the site and im looking for some help. (free help )

just bought a 08 ltz400 from a guy not running, so he says all it needs is gas. well get home put some gas in it and get about 10 feet and the chain pops off. so i lift the rear end and notice that my rear axel will move forward and back about 3-4 inches either way. so i tried to tighten the chain adjustment in the rear by loosening the four bolts and tightening the lower one on the back didnt help any. any more suggestions?
