Mine is always parked in my garage but when we are going to be away from the house for a week or two I jack it up, pull off a couple tires and stash the lug nuts. Also hide the key.
Doesn't mean they cant get it out but might help them realize they should pick a new target.
My Grandfather always used to say "locks are there to keep honest people honest" Really thats about all there good for.

Another thing when storing it outside it put a tarp or cover over it as well as lock it. If the ATV is not in plain view its just less appealing to people snooping around.
One more trick, put a fake For Sale sign on the ATV that reads.
Then see how interested they are in loading it up and taking it away.
I kid you not, my dad does that trick with his Snow Blower that is parked out side all winter.
