Default platform hauling behind 5th wheel

I'm sure most everyone is familiar with the luggage platforms that plug into a receiver hitch. Most measure about 24"x 60" and carry about 200lbs. Here's what I'm thinking about and would like some opinions. I am thinking about putting two receivers on the back of my fifth wheel camper and building a larger platform that I could load my Twister Hammerhead on. The weight is about 400lbs. Has anyone ever carried a quad or a large motorcycle on the back of a fifth wheel camper? If so, let me know how you did it and how well it worked. Thanks, Mike

You could do it but you'd need to move some weight around to compensate for the extra 200 pounds hanging on so far back.

A lot depends on the length of your trailer, spacing of the trailer axles and current balance of the load. Easiest fix that I can think of is if you have a forward water tank to make sure that is not empty to balance out the extra aft load. A better fix would be to move any equipment that is normally loaded behind the axles to the forward part of the trailer, that way you are not towing any extra weight other than the 200 pounds on the back.

I see it done all the time. I pull double trailers to haul my toys, but the platform method is common.
Send a PM to Rescuediver...he has done it and can give you some idea's.

Thanks for the help, I think I may just go with a small trailer to pull behind the fiver. I liked the idea of a platform because I could back up with it on. Drawbacks to the platform in addition to those already discussed include having to carry ramps to load toy into back of pickup and having to remove 5th wheel hitch to make room for it. Thanks, Mike

I am looking at option to attach a platform on the back of my Cougar 1\2 ton 28 ft. Fifth wheel. My ATV is a CanAm Outlander 650 XT Max. Tow vehicle is 2013 Chevy Silverado 2500HD diesel. Idaho Tote are to expensive and the crazy wheel platforms do not recommend towing their's behind less than 30 foot fifth wheels. Any ideas out there that do not include hauling on the truck as it has a short box and crew cab?

Steve
