Default Truck for hauling an ATV

Hey everyone,

I am currently shopping for a truck that I intend to use to haul around a 300EX or 400EX or something similar. I've been looking at 2005-2006 Chevy Silverado’s and Ford F150 Extended cabs but also have been considering a crew cab but I'm not sure if the beds on the crew cabs are long enough to fit an ATV. Has anyone here had any experience hauling an ATV in a Ford or Chevy crew cab? Is it possible or should I stick with the extended cabs? Thanks!

P.S. - yes, i'm a newb to the ATV scene but I intend to have a fun filled summer this year. (Regardless of what the wife thinks.)

Welcome to the forums. I would say you can't really go wrong with either of them, they are both great trucks, just have to narrow it down to what else you would like in it. I would go with at least a 6.5' bed no matter what, this will fit the quad right in there with a little room to spare for some gas, ramps, tent, etc... I haul my quads with an 08 Silverado, so far its been a great toy hauler.

Default A Ford

Courier or Chevy Luv would haul an ATV. Anything more than this and its overkill.

I am doing the same kind of search. Crew vs. Extended hauling the 250ex. From what I have found the crew will not hold them with out tailgate being down. The Extended will with about 8 inches to play. I wanting the crew cab amnow looking at the GM 3/4 ton crew cabs, as those beds are a bit bigger.

Welcome to the forums.

Our 06 Silverado would not haul the quads without the tailgate down. Wasn't ever a problem, and shouldn't be for a lighter sport quad like you're looking at.

Our 08 Titan crew cab is the same way. Now they do offer the full 7ft beds on the Titan crews, but I just couldn't see my wife being able to get that through a crowded parking lot.

Any of the cab/bed setups will work, it's just a matter of whether you have to have the tailgate closed or not.

Only prob there is if you going to have a trailer behind with your other two quads.. Then the tailgate has to stay up. I never inteded to get more than two... well that is changing.

A bigger trailer would be a little cheaper than a new truck. But then again, that's not what we would tell our wives.

CrewCab or Extended bed doesn't make a difference, what does is the bed.

What is different is whether it a longbed - 8' or short bed - 6.5', I've had CrewCabs of both types.

I may be wrong, but the F150 Crew is not offered in a long bed. In fact that bed is only 5.5'. As far as getting a bigger trailer, well that would be great, but the little Jeep has all it wants with the two already. Time for an upgrade.

Just looked at the Chevy.. Looks like the bed in the Crew is 6.5'. And it looks like Dodge has the 6.5' and 8' beds in the crew. I stand corrected. Sorry Ford.. looks like you need a longer bed.
