I have the 06 with a 5.9 turbo. In late 07 you started getting the new motor. Can't say I care for the new one, but I am more than pleased with the 5.9 turbo. My tranny has been just fine. And I pull heavy, 12,000 but not stupid.

I love my 01 cummins! Pulls my 12'000 lb camper like it's not there. Pulled my brothers buried to the frame rail chevy out of a mud hole at an idle. (no bulls#!t) Gets 18-22 avg mpg. 15mpg with the camper. I can work on it myself, And doesn't have all those stupid sensors and epa crap on it. My father-n-law has had them all and says his GMC is the best riding worst mpg, The Ford wasn't quite as nice riding but a little better on fuel and the dodge he had rode the worst but had the best mpg and pulled better than the other two brands. He's going back to the Cummins next truck. I guess it all depends on whether you want a cushy ride or a truck that works hard.

MY 06 is a 2500 3/4 ton. Same driveline as the 1 ton. A person much wiser than me talked out of the duallie I was having prepped, and I went with the 3/4 tone SRW model. Crew cab of course. Put a topper on it too. It is all black, 4x4 and looks menacing. Because I live in and around DC, the cops leave me alone because they think I am a government vehicle.

this is a bit longer than i anticipated but,I bought my 1st brand new truck in 2003. I ordered it the way i wanted which took 8 weeks to get. I also had no idea what the 2004 models would look like. My uncle worked at the Chrysler plant in st louis and would let me know where it was each week in production. In October 2003 I picked my brand new 2004 dodge ram diesel HO(at the time 305hp,555ft lbs.) Graphite in color fully loaded quad cab Laramie. I was in heaven. I still own it today and drive it every day, long distances for work. 265,000 miles on the engine. I replaced the transmission at 220,000 b/c it needed a band replaced which was $700,but since my work was paying for it I asked to just replace it all. So now I got an even heavier duty transmission with higher rated horse power torque converter. The mechanic did tell me that I could easily get another 75,000 plus miles till I would need a transmission, but like i said work was paying so why not just get it all done. The only engine component that was replaced to date is the water pump. I still have the original batteries, belt, glow plugs,injectors,ect...i only change the oil every 6,000 miles and its free from the dealer for as long as i own the truck. Oh i forgot at 101,000 miles the lift pump went out.(these were near the engine at the time but was replaced and moved to the fuel tank which last alot longer). The truck gets at best 725 highway miles to a tank and that is a straight 10 hrs of driving 70-80 mph with no stopping or traffic. like i said i drive alot of far distances for work. Ive replaced ball joints 3 times which i just put lifetime ball joints on, only 2 u joints(life time also) on the rear and replaced the front 4wd u joints once last year,4 sets of tires, and rear end bearings at 210,000 miles. Had a remote starter put on 7 years ago and i always let it warm up before driving. I dont plan on selling or trading anytime soon. Very happy with the cummins. It is all stock as well. Right now im in Australia for 4 months for work,so my baby is in the garage. the wife better be driving it every so often too, lol. gotta keep it lubed and batteries charged!!

Funny been seeing a lot of women driving these big diesels... I'll see my buddies mom driving around town roaling coal with her 6 speed lifted cummins (they won the lottery and sold a lot of land in the middle of town to... Sams club)
Then i see.. "todays man" driving a rice burner automatic with video game and vampire stickers all over his car.

i had an 05 CTD 3500 dually, great engine...to bad about what it had been wrapped in! Finally at 276k miles i traded it in as i couldnt take anymore of the repairs.
There is a company that sells a kit to install the 5.9/6.7 cummins in a ford, big money swap though.
