Hi, does anyone know if it is illegal to ride atvs on seasonal roads in ny state? just got my first atv, its a honda rancher es 4x4. please let me know, also if theres any good trails near the corning, elmira area. thanks, scott
im in elmira...as for seasonel roads im not sure but i would probably say no...my dad has 200 acres on jeruselum hill where i ride quite a bit. theres a nice track(kellers) here in elmira and theres a old gravel pit in breeseport(lotsa land there) if you really wanna ride letme know sometimes we have about 12+ sport quads havin a blast...im goin tonight at my dads and tomorrow theres gonna be about 10 of us going to chemung where i guess they got permission to ride some awesome trails....heres a list of the quads coming tomorrow..2banshees,2 mojaves,warrior,kfx700,2 kfx400,2 400ex
There are some small exceptions, but in NY it is illegal to ride your ATV basically anywhere unless you own the land. It is illegal to ride ANYWHERE unless your ATV is registered and if you ride off of your own property you must have insurance for it.
Exceptions are www.trailpass.com (which I believe has a trail in Corning) and specific area up north.
we have a hunting camp in ellery center and i have driven past and talked to cops driving down the road and they generally dont mind it. the only problem is that the roads are covered in a "high stick" coating for higher traction in the winter and it eats tires like theres no tomorrow
