Default So. Calif.-New Fences at Calico

With some slightly cooler weather, we did a riding/shooting trip to Calico this morning. Was pretty nice! Temp was only 88 when we left at around 10am and there was a nice stiff breese, so if you were riding or under an EasyUp, it was very comfortable.

Anyway, there were lots of new fences going up in Mule Canyon in the areas where you always see lots of folks camping. These are obviously intended to keep you from riding in the hills and confining you to the road only.

Thing is, they clawed up the hills with a buldozer, so it would be unrideable. Now....if this is intended to prevent errosion, *** do they think running a cat through there is going to do, next time there is a thunderstorm????

This is probably just another one of the anti-offroad projects, funded by your own green sticker money!!!

That rots. It seems like they are trying to close more and more every day. It's not a fun ride out here in the Northeast either as we have to get permission from private land owners to cut trails in. If some idiot does something spastic on a quad our trails get closed. Our system is cut in half because one land owner on the connecting trail finally got fed up.

Still worth going...just won't have as many hillclimbs to try. Great place if you have a 4X4 quad and want to do some rock crawling ( Calico Run - Desert Side Tracs 4X4 Club 2006 Annual Calico Run - Jeep at Off-Road.com )....but you can also get around eveywhere except the rocky canyons on a sport quad. Legal area for targer shooting as well.

Have to check that out. I was out there with Cub Scouts in March and there were no fences, so they must be pretty new. I'll have to go out and check it out. Still lots of places to ride out there. Love Mule canyon to camp in off to the left on the flat area....Alot of mines have been closed out there also over the years also...Just to many knuckleheads making it harder for the rest of us. Oh did go riding in April, so its probably pretty new stuff...
