Default FMF Gold Series Fatty Pipes on Banshee - LOUD and not much low end

I haven't had a sport quad in a few years but today I bought a 91 Banshee. I'll be bringing it home on Monday to figure out more, but when I rode it today, I noticed it was VERY loud. Much louder than my old Banshee I had years ago. It's got the chrome FMF Gold Series Fatty pipes and Power Core II Silencers on it. I was told they were only around a year old and had not seen many hours of use. Are these pipes naturally this loud or are the silencers needing repacked already?

Also, I didn't have much low-end during my test drive. It bogged starting out even in low gear. I attributed this to the pipes too, but I haven't ridden it enough yet to be sure how bad it is. Is there anything else I can do without switching pipes to bring on some low-end torque? It's got no airbox, stock carbs (I think) and v-force reeds.

Any tips are appreciated since I've been out of the sport quad world for a number of years and haven't had a banshee since the early 90s. Also, feel free to point me toward any good Banshee websites that might be out there.

Thanks all!

Ken

well about the lowend, most banshee's don't have good lowend. as a matter of fact i've never riden a shee with low end torque, so its just something you'll have to get used to.

about the repacking, i'm not real sure how you know when you need to repack, but most shee pipes tend to be rather loud.

Low end in a Banshee........ is there such a beast? Play around with your jetting it might get a little better. and yes, Banshee's are loud.

I think it sounds like a jetting issue to me, get it home and see what jets are in it.

On the pipes, you might want to check the packing and see, it could be shot, or maybe they are just that loud. The loudness of a pipe is just to subjective for us to know for sure.

You might want to check out bansheehq.com it is a banshee site with some good info. That site sometimes gets alot of stupid stuff going on, however you can usually get some good help also. Just have to sort through it all.

Welcome to the banshee world, I have two and love them.

That makes no sence. Fatty's are a low-end pipe. Sounds like jetting to me to, not to judge how good a rider you are but it could be the way one is pulling off from a dead stop. Is it in every gear or just first??

JuJu: There's nothing wrong w/ fatty's, diff. pipes fit diff. styles of riding.

95% of people that say shee's have no low-end have never rode one!!! I know b/c I said that b4 I bought mine. All my power is in 1-4 gear, now the low-end is not as good as say, a raptor b/c 2 smokes dont produce torque!! They produce H.P.
