Did you change the jetting at all?

Of the new carb? Yes, I went up one size on the Pilot for easier cold starts.

I should do the same since it can be a pain when it is snowing out.

Thanks. I should end up buy this, and slotting the holes on the mill at work. I'll post some pictures when I do it.

I'm in Georgia near sea-level, with much milder winters than yours. You might need to go up more than just one size on the Pilot. Get an assortment of jets from Jets R Us and jet the carb for your conditions and elevation.

This is great info! I actually just got a 85 moto4 200 over the weekend, waiting on rebuild kit for carb to see what happens. Stretch67, did you replace yours because it was wore out? Or are these carbs just hard to fine tune? The one I just got hasn't been used since 1990 so I doubt the carb would be wore out and a carb kit should work just fine.

I may go another route. Seems that a Mikuni VM26-606 is also VERY close, and you can buy a mounting flange Mikuni 990-842-046. I'll have to do some more research on this.

Just so I'm 100% understanding here. Did you just use all the supplied jetting, and then only up the Pilot one size.

The reason I ask is because all the jetting are different sizes than the OEM carb. The carb you posted also has slightly larger everything...

The VM26-606 should work, but the flange is wrong. 57mm instead of 53mm.

Also, looking at a VM26-8074...closer to stock specs.

YFM 200 carb
VM20-273 might be a near bolt on. Looking to find more info, but this might work great on the YFM225 with different jets.

YFM 225 carb
VM24-512 is a good candidate as well. I need to find more info.

Ordered the VM20-273 Carb. should have it by Friday.

Bolt flange is slotted, and 50.8mm center to center. (Stock is 53mm) Should bolt right up without modification. The Air-box side (43mm) and engine side (29mm) are almost identical to stock. According to the place I ordered it from the throttle should be plug-n-play also.

I'm getting different jetting. An assortment, and the "recommended" jets. I'll let everyone know what size(s) I end up with. It it smaller than stock, but flows similar. I figured the extra torque down low would be better than more high RPM power.

Great work! You did a lot more research than I did. I had bought one of the cheapies for a different project years ago, so when I recently needed a new carb for my Moto 4, I simply did a repeat buy and made some modifications.

Yes, I did keep the new carb's jetting stock, except for going up one size on the Pilot, to #20. I've read in some forums of folks needing to go up to a #25, but mine starts just fine with the 20.
