Default 2000 Kodiak 4x4 Cam Chain

Hey all, newbie to the site here. I just recently purchased a 2000 kodiak 4x4 ultramatic. I have the thing running great, but the cam chain is doing that ticking thing and I would like to change it. I really need to know what I should change along with it, like sprockets, adjusters, etc... A link to a service page would be nice also. I would really appreciate any help you all could give, and I did want to mention that the site it awesome, glad to me a member.

Have you adjusted the valves yet? They will make a similar ticking noise and they are 50x easier to adjust. Check them first(You will need a manual), and adjust them. How many miles are on the machine?

Thanks for responding. Yes, I have already adjusted the valves and they were easy to adjust. I really don't know how many miles on the machine, no odometer or hour meter. The previous owner guessed at around 5-6k on the mileage though.

Hi, first to know if the cam chain need to be replace fellow this : set the engine at TDC, remove the automatic cam chain bender, set it a full open position , replace it and if it is fully seated this is because you need to replace the cam chain. Replacing cam chain is a quite easy job you need , high temp sillicon , Flywheel puller and a good box kit , i suggest you tu buy the service manual ! you must remove the recois starter, stator cover, the flwheel , and remove the cam chain spocket, , after this re time the engine and all is done !

Yes, I have already made the determination that the chain and sprocket are worn out, I am just trying to get some good info on the easiest and best way to change the chain. I have ordered a manual for the Kodiak, but won't be here for several days, was hoping to get some good information or links form the forum to assist in changing it.
