Since this is the yamaha forum, I'm sure you will get more responses saying the yamaha is better.

You'll hear a lot about polaris reliability and construct... I see a lot of guys that switch to something else from Polaris Sportsmans... So many repeat reasons. Here's one a guy gave yesterday...

"I sold my two brand new 2007 Polaris, one 800 and one 500 after 2 months of owning. Luckily I broke even. The reason I didnt like the Polaris machines: loose wires that were poorly routed, the AWD system did not engage until the wheels slipped and it didnt perform in reverse without holding the override down, EXTREMELY heavy, my 800 weighed in over 950 pounds, there were other issues as well."

The Grizzly 660... (I'd go w/ the 700 w/ EPS if you have the choice) is a great quad. The dif-lock is flawless, engine braking is second to none, and power is plenty. (It's not a Vtwin, but it's enough...) It still overheats if you get the radiator too muddy.

Overall though, it just depends on the application of the quad... The sportsmans have a really plush ride... If all you do is trail ride... it'll do just fine...

well i own a sportsman 800 and the main reason i bought it was a friend works at the polaris dealership (free mechanic) i like my 800 with the exception of everthing rattles on it and it is heavy and not that great on gas. but i have 2 friends one owns an older sportsman 500 and has had no trouble except for damage he has personally done. its a good trail machine, he lets it sit for months at a time sometimes and it fires up with out a problem.

my other friend owns a 2007 eps grizzly 700 and it is a great machine as well. i dont like the 4x4 system as much as my polaris, i like just clicking one button and it is there to stay no matter what. i also like my 3rd headlight at night better, but i love his power steering. he has 27" outlaws on it and its like butter turning it. he has had a few electrical issues but other than that it seems to be well built.

its all in what you like. the frame on the sportsman looks stoughter than the grizzly (thats probably why it weighs nearly 200lbs more) but the griz almost keeps up with my 800 in speed, very close.

i like both

I have a polaris sportsman 2005 like it okay. I have had one mechanical problem in 2 years a starter bearing went out replaced for 5 bucks. Ride is cushy and it will climb as steep as you dare go. JT

I would say Yamaha. Polaris are haevy, noisy, and sluggish. They are also put together poorly. A few my friends have Grizzlys and love them.

You are funny!

My Sportsman has been a great machine; rides like a "Cadillac". I use it primarily for tasks around a hobby farm. It has great power and has had very little issues. Just normal wear and tear. I would agree that the wiring is not ideal (as Hebs stated). In MN we have a big swing in temps and it has always performed. "To each their own". Good luck!
