Hi, first visit here.
Need help with a starting problem.
My 2WD timberwolf can sometimes take 5 seconds or more to startup using the electric start, but if I use the manual pull start it will fireup usually first or second pull. I use the choke as well.
Any ideas why this is happening?
thanks.

I actually have to start mine with the enrichener/choke off and it fires right over. I then hit the choke. It will start first time with the choke on with the pull start. Some people here pointed me to the Electrical system. Not enough juice left for spark after turning the starter. Less compression with the choke off, so it turns over.
First step was the battery. It will fire right away when jumped to a tractor battery.
So I upgraded the battery to a 210 CCA AGM. It is better, but still takes a while on the starter.
I may test the s coil, CDI, and stator when it warms up. (I am getting too lazy to heat the barn and I am begging for spring) I am weak on electronics, but the manual lays out some pretty easy resistance tests. I may also have an adjustmet needed in the choke/enrigchener. Or, I just may leave it alone as it runs well enough for what I have in it, and my daughter rarely if ever rides it alone.
good luck

Thanks for your reply.
I also suspect that it is an electrial fault. My wife uses this most of the time so I want it so it starts by key. The battery is fully charged and has ample power to easily crank the engine. I will check my workshop manual further and do some tests.
Yes, it's no fun working in the cold, however, It's the opposite here as we had a 30C (86F) day yesterday.
Cheers.

I worked on it this fall, as I wanted it to start easy for my daughter. Mine will turn right over without the choke. ...But You are probably not using a choke in that weather! I am jealous! My wife rides a Beartracker, similar bike, but no cold start issues.(yet)
You may want to play with the fuel mixture screw on the bottom of the carb. In lean, back it out to richen it up.
