Default Did a bump start kill my Raptor

Hers the scoop. I've got an '02 Raptor with a Stage 2 Hotcam and K N Filter. Thats it with the engine. New battery. I was having starting problems off and on. Got a new battery and the same day, i believe my starter solenoid went. The battery is fully charged but just gets the faintest little click when when i hit the starter button. I pull started it with my buddys truck to get home. After i got home, i parked it and it hasnt ran since. I haven't replaced the solenoid yet but i have charged the battery and tried to start it by jumping the solenoid but it seems to get only a couple of cranks and its pretty slow. Like it has very high Compression or something. Even with starting fluid, it wont start but made one hell-of-a backfare and caught my airbox on fire from the ether. With a full charge i get a few cranks and it wont ever start. Even tried to bump start it again and the engine is spinnin but theres no runnin. I have spark and theres gas to the carbs. I checked the valves and they seem good but one of the exhaust covers stripped and i cant get it off to check the lash. The valves were never adjusted again after the cam swap so its about that time. So how can i get this stripped cover off. Do you think the valves are my problem? Compression release? Carbs? Electrical? Please help. I wanna go ridin this weekend!

Do you think this was caused by the bump start?

The bump start wouldn't hurt anything. Check the starter, if the brushed are bad it could have killed the solenoid then check the plug you may have fouled it by trying to start it when it was cranking to slow to start, that may be why it won't start when your trying to bump start it now

Thanks guys. Stupid question. How do i get the plug out? Hahah. I've tried to get a plug socket on it and theres a rubber ring down there or something. I cant get to the hex of the plug. Even pressing really hard on the wrench. I havent been able to pry it out with a flathead. Theres not enough clearance to look down the hole. What should i do?

go to a yamaha dealer and get the special wrench that comes in the factory toolkit.. if you know a guy that works there the wrench is usually free ;0

Check under the thread "02 raptor won't start"..

I had the same problem, so I listed the tests under that thread for another guy with the same Raptor woes...

Decompression Cam failure is a common problem with the 01-03 Raptor 660's (from a friend who's a Service Manager)..

..hope this helps...
