Lightbulb 2001 Yamaha grizzly 600 serious problem!

hey guys! I have a bad or so I think a bad problem with my 2001 yamaha grizzly 600, I was riding yesterday and I came back out of the trails to head back to my house and I was doing 50mph everything was working fine nad then I backed off the 30mph and when I went to speed up again it wouldn't the RPM's were going faster but the over-all quad was not moving any faster. So when I got home I saw a bunch of smoke coming from the air in-take and then I pulled the oil cap off and it was really smoky in there! so I figured that it was the oil so I put some more in and it smokes a little bit now but it is still making a horrible gear grinding noise even in Nutruel! Any suggestions to help me would be greatly appreciated!!! thanks!

You figured it was the oil so you put some more in? Did you check the oil level to see? If your engine oil was low I wouldn't expect that to cause it to rev faster without moving faster. Is it possible that there is a problem with the belt slipping? I know if the belt gets wet it will slip and the engine will rev higher but the quad doesn't go faster. Could the belt be wet or muddy, or maybe in need of maintenance?

no, I don't think that it is that because I just fixed that problem, I just asked my neighbor who is like an expert and since there is a grinding sound coming from under the gas tank he thinks that it could be the piston head, although i thought that it was the gears grinding because of a broken sprocket or something.

i thought 2000 was the last year for the 600s,anyways i think hes talking about the V belt that goes on the clutch assembly to run the CVT.

If the smoke is coming from the air intake and you had smoke in the crankcase I would suspect the oil pump may have died

the smoke could be the belt,if its slipping like crazy and smokin...does it smell like rubber? or does it smell like something else like hot burning metal?
