1998 Warrior reverse problem
Just bought a 1998 Warrior. Has a rebuilt motor, and you can tell by the frame that it's been used pretty hard. This is my first ATV, so I'm a newbie here. It starts and runs great, good acceleration, no hesitation, just keeps pulling, gears change good.
My problem is when I shift it into reverse, the engine dies. It doesn't lug down, it just dies like you hit the kill switch. Mechanically it goes into reverse, the bike lurches slightly like you'd expect, yet the engine just dies. If it doesn't die right away it starts sputtering, won't respond to the throttle, then dies. I'm thinking electrical problem.
After reading some back posts around here, I pulled the ground wire and cleaned it, no difference. The only other wire on the reverse lever I assume goes to the reverse light. Just on a whim I pulled the bulb out, killing that circuit, still no help. I'm hitting a brick wall here and hope someone out there can point me in the right direction. I know my way around wrenches, but not atv's so any help would be great.

It dies while I'm still holding the clutch. You can hear the difference in the engine as you shift it into reverse. If it doesn't die it runs rough, if you shift it out of reverse while still holding the clutch it clears up and runs/idles fine.

theres a wire that runs off your clutch perch should have a male and female end and it connects into the harness somewhere, unplug it then plug the male and female together into eachother which is gonna disable it, its for a reverse sensor, see if that works if not, take your entire reverse assembly off and clean everything including the wire thats on the lever.
