The rear end recently went out in my Kodiak. Bad news. WORSE news I just bought the thing I cant find a sticker for the VIN but i've looked at pics online and a 1997 looks like my bike. I am just looking for any advice on tearing the rear end down. My girlfriends dad cut the frame to fix the problem last time the bike messed up but i want to avoid that by all means so.. Help please?! Thanks.

 

Are you trying to remove the rear end? I have done this on mine and it is fairly simple. Let me know what you are trying to do maybe I can help.

Yes I guess that's what i mean.. I had been led to believe that the axle was popping out of the rear end but i didnt know the splines were worn down.. I found that out the hard way.. But if you can kinda describe how you pulled the rear end out Cole it'll sure help. Thanks, Will

 

 

First a removed the rubber boot that connects the axle to the transfer case, then I removed the cables going to the back brake, along with the vent tubes. Next I pulled the two plastic caps that cover the bolts that the axle pivots on and removed the bolts and the locking nuts on them. Then I unbolted the shock from the axle but left it on the frame and rolled it back on the tires. The shaft going into it is splined and easily pulls out. I think it is easier to leave the tires on and roll it out with them and put the frame on jaskstands. I also removed the seat and rear plastic to make my life easier but I think it could be done without it. Let me know if you need any more help,

Alright I got the rear end out it wasn't too bad now I'm having problems removing the axle. I've removed everything on the brake side and put a deep well socket to protect the threads on the axle and hammered away. The axle isn't moving, everywhere I've looked says the axle should slide out. What am I missing?

I think the axle is welded.. We've been looking online for used ones. A guy down the road actually has a wolverine that's tore up and the chunk looks the same so I might get it. Not much help I know but good luck
