Turning a 400 into a 450 by changing jug/piston.

OK, I spent about 3 minutes and with the help of our old friend google found that you can get that motor to at least a 458, 488 if it is liquid cooled. The prices look decent too, if you can do the work yourself. The only thing is you will need to replace the crank in the process(stroker) and while you are in there it would be best to upgrade the cams and recalibrate the clutching. Should be able to keep the carb, although at only 33mm I bet you could see some good gains from upgrading or at least getting that bored out as well.
In theory, you should be able to just replace the jug/piston with a larger bore and skip the stroker, not sure what you could expect for final size though. My recommendation is to get a quality piston whichever way you go.
Sending you a pm.
