Hey my name is dave, new to the forum here. Looking for a hand or an opinion on a four wheeler i have.

I bought a 86 YFM225 and since last summer, have been slowly restoring/modifying it. I now have the fresh motor back in the frame with new rings/piston/sleeve/wrist pin/gaskets, and in running/riding condition. My only problem is, is that the battery is not being charged. Things that have been noted:

-New battery, had it tested, still tests good.
-Stator is working, because four wheeler still runs after i disconnect the battery entirely.
-Un plugged all connections, cleaned them, and lubed with dialectric grease.

Any ideas? Nothing is being left on to drain the battery.

Here's a couple of good pics of the quad.
(plastics are NOT finished, thats why they are not pictured)

Both the earth and "live" wires to the regulator have to be good. A voltmeter is not going to show power, so the best tester is a fairly high wattage 12v test bulb. Make sure it lights brightly when connected between the pos and neg terminals on the regulator connector. If this is OK, check the stator wires with an ohm meter, all three phases should have roughly the same resistance and there should be no shorts to earth from the phases.
