Default Buying a used ATV, choices choices

I posted a few days back about a KFX 700 that I have now opted against since it's an automatic.

I have been scouring eBay and CL for a good deal on a quad and think I've come across the best so far. It's a 05 Yamaha Raptor 350 with low hours and nothing mechanically wrong. The seller says it needs a tune up. She had it listed for $1700 but since it needs a tune-up, I offered $1400 and she accepted.

Now I'm posting here in regards to the engine size. This will be my first ATV, and I'm still learning how to use a manual. A friend taught me how to drive his 660, and I got the hang of it but no way near second nature. I intend on driving it on trails, nothing crazy to start off with. Do you guys think a 350 will suffice? I find tons of 660s but very few 450s which I thought would be ideal. Couldn't find a good price on the 450s in my area.

Good luck if you want a 4x4 or 2wd Utility ATV because 95% of them are Auto Belt drives and they do not even make a high powered Utility manual ATV. I think a 500 Honda Foreman and 500 Arctic Cat is the largest manual 4x4 ATV made and both are not the strongest in the 500 class.
The 450 Grizzly is a Automatic, even if you find one. The only manual foot shift Grizzly made is the small 125 and 250.

I'm not sure I follow the direction of your post? The 350 raptor is a 2x4 sport, not a 4x4 or 2x4 utility.

My friend has a Yamaha raptor 660. The main concern and reason I'm posting here is to get some advice on the 350 engine size on the one I'm looking to purchase. As mentioned, it'll be my first atv.

The Yamaha 348cc (Bore x Stroke 83 x 64.5 mm) motor in the Yamaha 350 Raptor has been around since the 80,s and is very reliable and has good power for its size.

I had it in my , 1989 350 Big Bear and my current 2007 350 Grizzly. It was also used in the 350 Warriors and 350 Wolverines ATVs.

Check it out. http://www.atvreviewnetwork.com/enth...2=309880&go=Go

Just make sure whatever you buy you can also get a service manual for it.

The Raptor 350 is a good 1st quad and $1400 sounds like a pretty good deal, depending on condition. A stock 350 will run about 55 mph top speed where a stock 660 will run about 73 mph, so if you don't mind getting beat by your friends all the time, the 350 would be fine to start out with. All my friends used to ride 450's and Raptor 660's, and I had a Warrior, on the trails I could keep up fine but when it was time for some drag-racing I was always the flagman, but I didn't mind, we always had a good time. Thats what its all about.
