Default Raptor 700 vs YFZ 450 Same old question

Greetings,

Yeah it has been discussed a few time (100s) but I'm still on the ropes.

I have had both and have a 2006 700 right now.
I'm trying to decide on a 2nd quad (for the wife) between a 2009 Raptor 700 or 2009 YFZ 450R
Both with similar mods. It will be used mainly for dunes. YFZ would be lighter, easier for the wife to handle but the low end torque is always nice for cruising and getting out of trouble. Reverse is also something to consider?

What do you guys think?

Well, what does SHE think? The raptor's big torque and more laid back attitude, softer suspension, etc or the lighter weight, harsher ride, and more effort of the YFZ... You know your wife better than I. Then again, you could always get the YFZ and let the wife ride your Raptor if she doesn't like it.

She has only ridden a 700 so far and really liked the low end torque but I'm thinking she may also like the way the 450 handles since it's lighter and a little smaller. She never got a chance to ride the 450 before it was stolen alone with my 700 and predator 90 along with most everything else in the way of ATV stuff.

Anyways, I'm just wondering on what people think about the handling, ride-ability for sand and putting around as well as reliability. I have never had any problems with the 700 I have owned in the past and love the EFI on the 700.

Thanks,
It had cut fenders when I got it, stock levers, stock bumper and a few other things so I'm finishing it out with a little more bling. Orange ASV levers, 3 bar bumper, Nerf bars, full black & white Maier carbon plastic and more. Should be nice when it's done. I'm keeping the motor mostly stock but I may do stage 2 cams later.

I'm still on the fence on what to get the wife though. There is a 2009 YFZ 450 carbed and 2009 YFZ 450R injected for almost the same money but with mild mods I'm thinking about.

If you where choosing between these two which one would you buy?

2009 YFZ 450 *Low Hours*
2009 YFZ450R, fuel injected, aftermarket exhaust, nerf bars & bumper

The efi quads have a much easier thumb throttle. There are some easy mods to make the FCR pull a bit easier to though. The 450R will be wider if both have stock suspension. That is likely what I would go for if they are the same $$.
