Default big bear not running good

big bear 400 think it is an 06
sat over the winter, started up but had to leave choke on. Pulled carb, cleaned, replaced bowl gasket a o-ring for main nozzle. put carb back on starts but revs high with the choke on, take choke off it idles down might run ok might not the just dies out. put choke on it fires up and idles high again. Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like you may still have some trash in the jets or idled down too low or fuel mixture screw needs adjusting. Plus flush the tank and use stabilizer in the fuel.Better to rebuild a carb rather than just clean one and have to take it back off again if that is the problem.Especially if it's been sitting up.Carb kits are cheap for this one.http://www.ebay.com/itm/Carb-Rebuild-Kit-Repair-2000-2012-Yamaha-Big-Bear-400-4x4-2000-2004-400-2x4-/291089669631?pt=Motors_ATV_Parts_Accessories&hash=item43c64bddff&vxp=mtr On another note, bought a brand new Camaro RS/SS in 68 for $3500 when I was 19,wish I had it back now.. People like you keep reminding me about this car and the 70 Plymouth GTX 440 I bought two years later..But back then they were just cars.

that's what I was going to do but the guy at our Yamaha shop said that there was not a kit for that year, had to piece it together. What I thought was weird was how it ran ok on choke but now it idles up extremely high when you put the choke on like it is lean as H$$$.
Would those diaphragms have anything to do with it? I'm am very good with round and flat slide carbs but not there ones.

Thanks Again

Dealer just trying to sell you some expensive parts individually! Oem needle and seat probably twice what an aftermarket kit is! Slide diaphragm if not torn is usually not a problem. You might even consider this carb for $75 even though it's a Chinese knock off of the expensive Japanese Mikuni, considering it's over $200.http://www.cyclepartswarehouse.com/f...06&fveh=174998 Haven't heard any good or bad reports on these larger carbs, but people have bought carbs for smaller models with good results. Seems like China has it's hand in everything now..Several options you have.http://www.ebay.com/itm/Carburetor-Yamaha-BIG-BEAR-400-2x4-4x4-YFM400-2000-2006-NEW-Carb-/271085334422?pt=Motors_ATV_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3f1df1ef96&vxp=mtr
