Timberwolf Carb Help
Hi guys! Just picked up a 1995 Yamaha Timberwolf 250 2x4. I couldn't beat the price. Picked it up out of an old ladies garage for $500. It is in outstanding condition, other than the one issue I'm having.
Quad run fine, fires right up, purrs like a kitten at an idle. The issue I'm having, is if I'm at an idle, and I stab the throttle wide open, it stalls, if I let off, it will continue running fine, if I hold it, it dies completely. It also does it if I'm on a steep incline, when it stats to bog a little, I punch it, and it goes flat, and will die if I dont let off. Again, other then that, runs like a dream.
It did come from Colorado, at 10,000 ft. I started thinking jetting. When I rebuilt the carb yesterday, it had a #80 jet, the kit came with a #85. But even after the rebuild, no change. I have tried the a/f screw, all the way form 1/4 turn out, to 5+ turns out, with no change. The needle clip was in the 4th position, which I believe is factory, so I tried the 5th position, no change. I was going to pull the plug today, but to me it sounds lean, and with fresh jets and a rebuild, what can be done if it's too lean. Only thing I haven't done, is try the 1st-3rd positions on the needle.
Any thoughts? Thanks guys.
