I think you may have nailed it there. Even in perfect shape, the Grizzly 660 has its flaws. I used to poke fun a little at paying extra for power steering. After putting only a few miles on this Grizzly so far, I'm thinking how much I wish it had it. After a relatively long ride last week before the problems happened, my wrists were pretty sore from wrestling this thing around the trails. It just takes way more effort to manuver this thing than it should. It has the turning radius of a school bus as well. Power steering would remedy both of these shortcomings. That's another reason why the 700 is a far superior machine. You just can't find one used for $3000 or I would have bought one. Yamaha figured out all the things that were wrong with the 660 and the 700 was a big improvement.

Mine was the belt, the pulleys were worn out too. That's why the belt broke, it didn't seat fully on the pulleys. It was a new belt too. That was about 4 years ago. I don't think I'll buy another 660 ever though. After having gotten my King Quad, I'll never go back to a non efi machine. I always hated how hard the 660 was to start and warm up, same with my Brute Force 650 I bought after that. I loved that Brute Force 650 until the dual carbs started giving me trouble. Even when it ran perfectly, it gobbled gas and took a while to warm up. The Grizzly 660 wasn't much better. I can get 100 miles out of a tank of gas in the King Quad 750. And it starts instantly.
