Default 2009 Grizzlys!

Hey guys. Making my first post here. Excited to be a member and learn more about quads and the grizzly in general. I just purchased two used Grizzlys. I have been riding for years but always rode sport quads. My fiance wanted to start riding some too so we decided to get a couple utility quads. We found a local seller who was selling both of his grizzlys. They are a 2009 Grizzly 550 SE EPS 4x4 and a 2009 Grizzly 700 SE EPS 4x4. The 550 has 80 hours and 800 miles. The 700 has 240 hours and 2600 miles. The guy said he rode them on the back roads by his river camp. I am picking these beauty's up today. I was just a little curious on the hours and miles on the 700. The guy said he did all the maintenance required and guarantees nothing is wrong. He is a 50 year old man and his wife is 55. Both quads have winches, Aftermarket wheels and tires. The 700 has a power commander and Elka shocks and also comes with a white brothers exhaust(no equipped yet). Do you think I have anything to worry about with the miles and hours on the 700? It appears to be in excellent shape for a 2009. I look forward to hearing from you all and also learning more about the quad. Thanks!

The mileage and hour are about right at a average of 10mph.

My Sportsman 500 has 322 hours and 3350 miles and runs great, I would consider the Grizzly is even more reliable of a machine.

2600 miles is nothing for a Grizzly. With proper maintenance they can easily go 10,000 miles or more without having to touch the engine. I saw a 700 for sale at a dealer with 17,000 miles on it once and claimed it still ran well. The only concern would be if the belt is original. Usually about every 3000-3500 miles you will have to replace the belt. My 06 660 just recently got a new belt and it has 3100 miles on it. Its not a big expense, belt costs about $100(get the oem Yamaha belt, its the best) and takes about an hour whether you do it yourself or take it to a shop to get it done. So even taking it to a shop is about a $200 job, including the belt. And then you're good for several years until that one wears out. I think you will really like how the Grizzly's ride and you will really appreciate the eps. The Yamaha eps system is the best I believe. It provides just enough assistance but not so much that it makes the steering twitchy. Just the right balance. Both the 700 and 550 being single cylinder engines have good low end power, great for trail riding. The 700 tops out at about 65 mph stock, maybe a little more with both the trail commander and exhaust and the 550 at about 60 mph. That's plenty fast enough for most people.

With an average speed of 10mph, probably won't even need a belt but certainly, always good to make sure. I would also consider changing all the fluids even though the previous owner is claiming all maintenance... sometimes that means different things to different people.

I would have no concerns with that 700 with those miles. Mine has about the same and I just got back from Taylor Park where I put about 450 miles on her at high altitude. Not a problem at all and never thought at all about if it would make it. Rode all kinds of trails out there including a very tight 50" wooded trail (that was a blast) to high altitude narrow and off camber scree trails that gave the pucker factor.

BTW, these Grizzly's are not just utility as they can be used to rip around on and have lots of fun.

Here is some good information on how to set up your quad in the event you are interested in ripping around on it: Making your quad more stable (Less Tipsy) - Yamaha Grizzly ATV Forum

Funny thing is it references atvconnection for the original information.
