Default 97 Yamaha Wolverine Very hard to shift, adjustment bolt/screw goes all the way in!!

Hey guys,

I picked up a wolverine 4x4 recently, runs and drives pretty good for all-time 4wd. I noticed its very hard to shift up/down. I read on the forums that the adjustment screw on left side could be out of adjustment. So i loosened the nut and started running the screw in counter clockwise, was expecting it to bottom out, but it never did. So i stopped when it was flush with the case cover. I need some advice as to why this would not be bottoming out or giving and resistance at all?

I had a stiff shifting Yamaha Moto4 that was hard to shift with work boots. I switch to full synthetic motorcycle grade oil that's made for wet clutches and it shifted super smooth even with sandals on or bare feet.
