Question 4 Zinger carb issues

I recently purchased a Yamaha 4 Zinger, 86 i think. It was difficult to start so I replaced the carb and put in a new spark plug in. It still doesn't want to start. If i give it full choke and place my hand over the carb i can get it to start and idle as long as my hand is covering the carb. I checked the compression and i have 90 PSI with one full pull and 120 on the second pull. When i pull the plug after trying to start without my hand on the carb it is dry so i don't think i'm getting fuel. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Rebuild the original carb, and use a Shindy carb kit....then give it another shot unless the carb you replaced the old one with was new...and OEM.
