2005 Kodiak 450 - starter questions
Hi all,
I am new here. I am in the market for an ATV. A friend down the street has a 2006 kodiak 450 and really likes it. I enjoy driving it also.
I happen to come across a 2005 with 2400 miles / 600 hours. He says it runs fine but the starter does not work. Looks decent and he is asking $1600. My question is should I walk away or is this a possibility. After some google homework, I think from a starting perspective - I would be looking at a starter, one way clutch and gear. Possibly all the other parts in that assembly (bolts, washers, etc.)
I am fairly competent mechanically. I play with Jeep CJs on one tons and 38"s. I would need to buy the flywheel removal tool.
Anyone one have any advice? Below is a pic.
Thanks
Joe

The problem with a bike that doesn't start is, what happens when you get the starter fixed? You could find it has been seized or has a gearbox problem. It is a gamble, and the price should reflect this. From your description, the starter one way clutch has gone, rather than a simple starter not working. This is a lot bigger job than a starter swap but nothing too complex.
