Ask the Editors: Are All Suzuki 230s Created Equal?
We spent many hours staring at OEM catalogs to determine parts compatibility and unfortunately it looks like none of the parts numbers match between the two models in question.
Amazingly enough, Suzuki was pumping out 230cc variants left and right in those years and very few of them shared complete OEM parts numbers. In 1986 alone Suzuki offered an LT230 in G/H/J F & S packages.
G,H and J shared many of the same top end components but that’s not always the case with F & S. In 1987 they produced an LT-F230, LT230S, and LT230E. Again, though remarkably similar from afar, very few of the engine components match up according to OEM part #.
We can’t say with certainty that none of the components could be swapped but the fact that Suzuki themselves have stamped different part #s on the various components, your best bet would be to track down the correct top end for your exact year and trim LT230.
