Ask The Editors: Did Bike Bandit Go Under?
A parts giant topples.

Dear ATVC: I just went to order a new shifter for my Bayou and even though Bike Bandit’s site is still up, I heard they are out of business. Is this true? How is that possible?

On February 7th, Bike Bandit filed for Chapter 7 Bankruptcy in San Diego. They were around since 1999, when the internet was a very different place. In their prime, they were shipping 10,000 items per day to a customer base of nearly 3/4 of a million registered customers. Even recently they are reported as taking in $35-million annually.

It seems mismanagement and a world that keeps getting pummeled by instability did them in.

Worse still, customers are claiming that orders placed since the filing that have gone unfulfilled to the tune of nearly $700,000. How this will be recompensed is yet to be determined but here’s hoping the judicial system comes through when these bankruptcy proceedings are heard in court.

This whole situation saddens us deeply as not only do we also frequently order from them, their detailed online schematics have been an invaluable resource for decades in seeking out specific parts. Worse still, we are getting reports in of similar internet OEM & aftermarket parts suppliers closing up shop for good. Until the economy (and the global shipping climate) stabilize, no business is safe.
