Ask The Editors: Tao Tao Vin # Help

Version 1.0.0
We almost have it.
Chinese ATVs can be some of the toughest VINs to identify. We got close but there is one aspect of your VIN that isn’t checking out. Here’s how yours breaks down:
L – China
5N -Zhejiang Taotao
ATMGT- this is where you’re running into a snag (see below)
10th Digit 7 – 2007
The remaining numbers break down as follows:
9th digit – check # (4)
11th digit is the assembly plant – (T)
12th – 17th digit – sequential manufactured unit off the line (076943)
Everything checks out except for that ATM on the vehicle identification. These days Tao Tao uses ATM to identify their street legal scooter line while ATA represents the ATVs. This is where a picture of the machine in question could have been very helpful. Were we to guess without seeing it, it could refer to the ATA150G. If it looks like the above photograph, that’s the 2007 110. If it looks like the machine below, that’s the ATA150:

Check that VIN again and pay very close attention to the 4th-8th digits. Is it possible that “M” is in fact an “A”?
Based on what you provided, you do indeed have a 2007 Tao Tao automatic ATV but we are unable to get any more specific. If ATM GT is correct on that VIN, try calling Tao Tao parts suppliers online and asking if they have any records of such a model code.
