All New Electric ATV Line Launching This Summer: Meet Tachyon
Let’s face it – everyone is hyping up electric motors as the off-road tech of the future, but truth be told, there aren’t a whole lot of EV ATVs out there.
The big brands are being very deliberate with development and who could blame them? Their internal combustion offerings boast literal decades of refinement. They can offer warranties with confidence. Starting completely fresh with power source, drivetrain and recharging capabilities demands some serious R&D. No one wants to be the brand to jump the gun and put out a line of electrics that prove unreliable, serviceable, or worst of all, worthless when the battery packs will no longer take a charge (this, by the way, is an inescapable reality of electric vehicles even the automotive industry is struggling hard with right now).
All of this to introduce some good news for those who have been hoping to buy an electric quad and are tired of waiting. India’s Powerland says that the testing phase is complete and the US (and EU) can start expecting deliveries of their Tachyon line of electric ATVs this summer.
Never mind a transmission or drivetrain, though, Tachyon employs all-wheel-drive via four in-wheel motors. Combined, the configuration is good for 50 hp (37 kW) of peak power but as is so often the case when dealing with electric motors, torque is the more pertinent measurement. In this regard, the Tachyon looks ready to rumble – torque output is stated at 155 lb-ft (210 Nm) per wheel.

Powering this torque factory will be an 11 kWh battery that the company says will fully charge in 6 hours and net 68 miles worth of range. A higher capacity (15.5 kWh) battery intends to offer increased range. The site claims a zero to 40 acceleration in under 4 seconds.
Pricing will not be bargain bin affordable, however, coming in near an estimated $15,000 per unit.

The Tachyon ATV line looks to be only the beginning of Powerland’s off-road ambitions as they already offer a youth variant ATV line called Xplore and their site has a section in development for their forthcoming UTVs.
